Style is revealed through diction, sentence structure, and tone. Tone-the author’s attitude towards the subject. Mood- the feeling an author evokes in the reader (what you the reader feel). Plot-the series of events/happenings in a literary work (Exposition, Rising action, climax, falling action, resolution/denouement). Setting-time and place in which the action of a narration occurs Dialogue-a conversation between two or more people in literary work. Dialog can help develop characterization of those speaking and those spoken about, create mood, advance the plot and develop the theme. Foreshadowing-a hint of what is to come Theme-the underlying meaning of a literary work, what the author has to say about the topic/subject. Cause and Effect-why things happen (causes) and what happens as a result (effects) |

A year long course that focuses on the myriad voices reflecting the experiences that make up the American Nation each of which evokes a strong "Sense of Place". Literary Analysis and Composition are key elements of the course.
